Maidenhead Hilly 30

Early season race result:

Report by Nick Coe

Steve Maxted and I completed our first ever 2-up time trial on Sunday, the Maidenhead Hilly 30. Although the course was a bit tricky with potholes and a few traffic issues, the weather was perfect, being apparently the best for many years. At one point a speed of 45mph was reached on the run into Henley, but this was offset elsewhere with some significant climbing.

We were pleasantly surprised with finishing in second place, in a time of 1.16.30, earning our first ever racing prize money - £10, so not quite ready to give up the day jobs!

In first place, well done to Jonathan Schubert (VCC 2nd claim) and ride partner, with a hot time of 1.11.20. There were 6 pairs entered, in a field of 50 riders.

Overall, a satisfying start to the race season, gaining good experience and technique on this type of event.
