EVENTS 2008
SUNDAY CLUB RUNS - every week throughout the year, with 3 groups of differing ablity leaving the Town Hall, St Albans at 9:30am. CLUB ROOM - every Monday evening RIDE 4 A REASON - an open event organised ride for the novice and returning cyclist. 40 and 64 miles. THE CHILTERN 100 - an open event category one cyclosportive (organised ride) for experienced club riders preparing for international events such as L'Etape du Tour.107 and 63 miles. HARD RIDERS - season opener for the club triallers. 27 miles in early spring conditions. VERULAM 25. The club has continued to promote time trial events as part of the Cycling Time Trials programme for 2007. This race is the major event in our calendar and attracts a large field and some of the best riders in the UK. EVENING 10's - time trials are run on the Hitchin to Codicote road every Tuesday evening throughout the Summer. These are pursuit races over a 10 mile course and are open to all club members, whatever their ability. An excellent introduction to trialling for novices and stiff competition for experienced riders too. Points for these evening events go towards the Seabird and Stokes Trophies. HILL CLIMB - last event of the season; a 3 minute dash against the clock - fastest wins - up a suitably nasty hill. NORLAND COMBINE 25 - dates back to 2nd world war when clubs pooled resources to keep racing alive and give servicemen a chance to compete whilst away from home. Our annual British Cycling road race will not be run this year because we do not have an organiser. Next year we hope to run an event possibly at Hillingdon closed circuit. Members have taken part in leisure rides, International and UK cyclosportives and UK Audax events. These are not VCC club events but members regularly get together to coordinate accommodation and transport. |
